A Glimpse Into History
Nestled in the rolling hills of Kiambu County, Karunguru Estate is more than just a coffee farm—it’s a legacy. The roots of this land stretch back to the early 1900s when George Glassford arrived in Kenya under the “Beadoc” initiative, embarking on a journey that would shape the region’s history. With determination and vision, he established Karunguru, one of the earliest coffee plantations in Kenya.
From Glassford to Kariithi
Years later, this estate became part of a new chapter in Kenya’s history under the ownership of G.K. Kariithi, a leader in Kenya’s independence movement. G.K.’s vision was not only to maintain the estate’s agricultural legacy but to tie it deeply to the prosperity of a newly independent nation. The Kariithi family has since preserved the land’s rich coffee heritage while embracing its potential as a cornerstone of Kenyan luxury and culture.
